What is a full broadcast?
A full broadcast means throwing flake continuously over the wet epoxy base coat until the surface is completely covered and no base coat shows — the floor reads entirely as flake. Once cured, the excess is scraped and vacuumed off and the topcoat goes over the flake layer. Full broadcast gives the most texture, the best slip resistance, and the best coverage of surface imperfections. This calculator is set up for that full-broadcast coverage.
What coverage rate should I use?
The calculator defaults to roughly 8 ft²/lb (about 1.6 m²/kg) — a typical full-broadcast rate for standard vinyl chip flake. That figure is editable, so if your product data sheet lists a different full-broadcast rate, just type it in and the result updates.
Can I change the box size?
Yes. Box size is an editable field, pre-filled at 40 lb (about 18 kg) for standard vinyl chip. Set it to whatever weight your supplier actually sells so the "boxes to order" figure matches what you can buy.
Why does the calculator round up to whole boxes?
Flake is sold in fixed box sizes, so the calculator always rounds up to the next whole box. That way you have enough material to finish the job without running short mid-broadcast.
How accurate are the coverage rates?
The default rate is an industry-standard value for vinyl chip flake at full broadcast. Real usage varies with application technique, wind, and substrate texture, so confirm the rate against your product data sheet and edit the coverage field before ordering.
